Description

On Thursday 8th May it will be the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.  In the Pentons we will gather 2 days later, Saturday 10th, on the Recreation Ground from 12 noon until 5pm to enjoy picnics, drinks, a Big Band, sing along to Vera Lynn’s wartime songs and other commemorations of the way the community came together.

We’re teaming up with The White Hart who will provide a bar and BBQ on the field for you to buy refreshments, or you can bring your own picnic. Please bring picnic chairs or ground blankets.

Entry is free but donations are warmly welcomed which will be shared between Help for Heroes and The Penton Village Fund.

To echo the words of the UK’s Pageantmaster for VE Day 80, Bruno Peek  CVO OBE OPR:

On 10th May 2025, the Pentons will mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day while our nation unites to celebrate 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe. VE Day 80 is not only a tribute to those who fought for freedom but also a powerful reminder of the resilience and unity that have defined our country ever since.

We encourage everyone to take part—raise the VE Day flag, gather in streets, gardens, town halls, clubs and pubs. Let this be a day of joy, reflection, and celebration. As part of the Commonwealth’s 2.4 billion people, we reaffirm our commitment to peace, ensuring future generations understand and cherish its value.

Together, we honour the past and celebrate a future built on unity, hope, and peace.
